Our Guiding Frameworks and Methodologies

Project Management Framework:

Dake’s Project Management framework is informed largely by the PMBOK and PRINCE2 methodologies. The framework has been developed to be applied to any form of project from analysis and audit projects to systems development and Enterprise Architecture Design and Implementation projects.  PRINCE2 is a structured approach to project management and provides a method for managing projects within a clearly defined framework.

In our methodology, each process is specified with its key inputs and outputs and with specific goals and activities to be carried out. This allows for automatic control of any deviations from the plan. Divided into manageable stages, the methodology enables an efficient control of resources. On the basis of close monitoring, the project can be carried out in a controlled and organized way. Our project management framework provides a common language for all participants in the project. The various management roles and responsibilities involved in a project are fully described and are adaptable to suit the complexity of the project and skills of the organization. Our methodology is shown in the diagram below:

Our Change Management Methodology:

Since every project results in some degree of change, especially in the way that people work, it becomes very critical to make Change Management part of the full Project Management process. The function of change management covers all soft aspects relating to the stakeholders that are affected by the project in one way or another. During Change Management, our Change Management consultants undertake extensive communication to all stakeholders, conduct surveys, identify needs for and conduct the necessary training, coaching, mentoring and development. Through our consultants who are qualified Industrial Psychologists, Dake implements a Change Management plan during the course of each project that is designed to ensure a positive embracement of change that is brought about by the entire programme.

In our experience, successful change in organizations needs to be actively planned and managed. Research across different contexts and industries consistently shows that unless the impact of the change initiative is understood, there will be delays and costs as a result of lack of ownership, lack of organizational readiness, poor user acceptance, and resistance to change. Our Change Management Processes are designed to guide through a comprehensive change process from strategy and planning through to stakeholder buy-in, implementation and change sustainability. Our established change methodologies are based on contemporary change management thinking, and have been tested in small and large organizations. These have proven to have significant positive impact on the success of the change initiative.

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL):

Dake will apply the ITIL framework to define the full IT Service Management in the organization. The implementation of the framework will be categorized into its 2 core areas – Service Delivery and Service Support.

The disciplines and their objectives that will be covered under each area are shown below:

Service Delivery IT Service Continuity Management or Disaster Recovery (ITSCM): This will focus on the management of organizations most critical IT services to ensure business continuity in the case of a disaster or disruption to its business operations. Business Continuity Management (BCM) will also be covered as part of this focus area.
Capacity Management: This discipline will focus on the capacity and appropriateness of the organisations IT infrastructure and its ability and cost effectiveness to meet its business needs.
Availability Management: Dake will focus on ensuring the availability of IT services via the IT applications and systems to the users of the systems, both internal and external.
Service Level Management: Here the focuses on the establishment of Service Level Agreements (both internally and externally) for the control and management of service delivery levels and create common expectation between customers and suppliers of the IT services.
IT Financial Management: This will focus on planning and managing the IT infrastructure costs and to provide a sound financial basis for business decisions and budgeting relating to the organisations IT function.
IT Security Management: This will focus on the security requirements of the organisation from a network and information security perspective. The ISFM standard will be applied closely with this discipline.
Service Support Release Management: Release Management will focus on a systematic process of managing the release of new software versions and hardware upgrades
Change Management: Focus will be on a systematic process of managing the implementation of changes to any of the organisations IT production systems
Incident Management: This discipline will focus on the management of known or common and quick-to-fix IT incidents that result in disruption of the normal business functions.
Problem Management: Problem Management will focus on the management of unknown IT incidents or incidents that cannot be fixed immediately that would result in the disruption of normal business functions
Service Desk: Service Desk will focus on the user community support function for all IT related matters.
Configuration Management: Configuration Management will focus on effectively managing the organisations IT assets through effective use of information pertaining to those assets, components that make up the asset, their configuration, warranty information, etc.

The following picture shows how the above disciplines will be applied.

The table below summarizes how ITIL will be implemented in terms of strategic focus – from the day to day operations through medium term strategies to long term strategies. This means that ITIL’s application will be fully in line with the organisations ICT Strategy.
